[LGHSMB] Updates for the week of 10/12/09

Here are updates for the week of 10/12/2009.

  • We had an excellent first competition at the Cupertino Tournament of Bands! The weather was great; the band pulled it all together and delivered the first full in-uniform performance of "City of Angels"!
  • I wanted to deliver a special thank you to all of our great volunteers, especially the food team, who provided an excellent Burrito Feast. A special "above and beyond the call of duty" award goes to Robyn Filardo for 8 stunning apple pies made with apples from her own trees!
  • We had a tremendous abundance of desserts at the competition--a bit too much at the end of the night. Please note that, for future competitions, we're reducing the amount each dessert-maker needs to make, from 75 down to 50. That's (for exmaple) 8 dozen cookies, 5 pies, or a full sheet cake.
  • Independence Itinerary is posted at http://lghsmusic.net/files/LGHSCompetitionTimelineIndependence2009.pdf.
  • We are still looking for three additional volunteers for Independence: a donation-jar monitor, a pre-competition water server, and a post-competition pot/pan/cambro washer. Please sign up at http://www.i-volunteeronline.com/lghsband.asp?EventId=74090622134317.
  • Orchestra news! Those of you who read the Los Gatos Weekly Times have probably already seen this, but there was an excellent article about a Los Gatos Music Department alum, Martin Stoner from the class of 1967. This acclaimed professional musician paid a visit to Mr. Fortino's orchestra class last week as part of his effort to raise money and awareness for music education. Mr. Stoner will be performing on October 15th at Le Petit Trianon.
